To understand why your skin is prone to acne you need to have a basic knowledge of your skin composition. The skin consists of two distinctive layers known as the Dermis and the Epidermis.
The dermis is the inner layer which consists of nerve endings, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, blood vessels and the elastic fibres which give skin its elasticity.
The epidermis is the outer most layer which is also made up of two distinctive layers. Cells are made in the inner layer by a process called mitosis. The outer layer consists of dead cells which forms the waterproof layer which protects the inner layers. This layer of dead cells is one of the causes of acne prone skin.

Sebaceous glands in the dermis produces oil (sebum) which lubricates the skin and hair. In acne prone skin there is normally an over-production of sebum resulting in oily skin. While that is a down side, oily skin tends not to wrinkle and show signs of aging as in normal skin. This is because the oil keeps skin more supple and elastic. In some cases sebum is blocked by dead cells resulting in its accumulation inside the skin.
Bacterium (Propionibacterium acnes) which harmlessly lives on the skin then feeds on this sebum and produces substances which trigger the immune system to react resulting in acne. If this happens often then we have acne prone skin.
If you have acne prone skin, you need to take good care of your skin to prevent the occurrence of acne. We will walk you through how to wash your face properly, how to choose the right product, and how to protect your acne prone skin.
